What happens to your plastic bottles once they’ve been picked up by your waste hauler?
First, they are taken to a MRF, or Material Recovery Facility, to be sorted out from the rest of your recyclables. Then, they are baled and sold to a plastic recycling facility that specializes in processing that type of plastic.
Plastic bottles are pushed through a shredder. The shredded plastic is then power washed clean. Then, the shreds are melted into small pellets. These pellets are sold to plastic manufacturers to make new bottles, packaging and plastic products.
